feRestaurant Co-Owner Accused Of Creeping On Women With Camera Hidden In Bathroom

Police in Maryland say the co-owner of a local restaurant group took advantage of his customers in one of the most invasive ways possible, by allegedly setting up a video camera in the women’s restroom at one of his restaurants so he could secretly film them going to the bathroom. And cue those shudders, folks.

The owner of a tavern in Savage, MD has been charged with six counts of visual surveillance with prurient intent, reports WUSA9, after a police investigation going back to May 2014.

A female customer told police back then that she’d been in the restroom when she saw a digital camera fall to the floor. Investigators checked the camera’s memory card and said they found footage of a man putting the camera into position, as well as images of six women.

After checking surveillance video from the restaurant, police say the footage showed the same man, who was then identified as the owner of the restaurant. DNA taken from the digital camera also matched the suspect, police say, and he subsequently turned himself in.

His restaurant group operates other restaurants and concert venues as well, and police are checking out those areas as well.

The group released a statement upon the news of the investigation, saying it “wants to assure the public, our staff and our guests that we have been fully cooperative with the Howard County Police Department. Per the police investigation, this is an isolated situation involving one bathroom” at the restaurant where the camera was found.

“We understand the community’s rightful concerns,” the statement reads. “Since the incident in May 2014, we have been focused on ensuring that all of our facilities are safe and secure. No other locations or incidents are involved.”
